Service Tips

Service Tips to Keep Your Machine Running Smoothly

  • Use the correct bobbin. All bobbins are not the same. The bobbins that come with your machine and recommended by your dealer give the proper tension and timing.
  • Needles are important for good stitches and tension. Use universal needles for general sewing, jeans needles for heavy fabrics and embroidery needles for embroidery work. The size needs to be larger (higher number) for heavier fabrics. Change the needle every 7-10 hours of sewing and anytime your machine sounds noisy when you are stitching. Check for bent needles or those with a burr and replace immediately.
  • Thread is important for proper stitching and care of your machine. Good quality thread (as listed below) leaves less lint in the tension discs and has the strength to make proper stitches without breaking.
    Examples of good thread are:
    Metrosene polyester or cotton
    DMC 50 wt. cotton
    Sulky, Isocord or Madeira embroidery
    YLI machine quilting
DO NOT USE HAND QUILTING OR GLAZED QUILTING THREAD IN YOUR SEWING MACHINE. It is made for hand quilting.
  • Unplug your machine when you are finished sewing. For computerized machines, be sure to use a high quality surge protector.
